About the Image:

A view of San Francisco and the Bay Bridge from Alcatraz on a rainy day. From this viewpoint I liked how several streets show clearly on the steep hills in the distance. The Parade Ground is in the foreground. Before Alcatraz became a federal penitentiary, the island served as a military fort and prison. During that time, this open area was used for military parades, drills, and formations.
